Maria Barić is a Helsinki-based versatile artist and founder of the internationally acclaimed performing arts group Maria Barić Company which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

She has received many awards and recognitions for her artistic work both in Finland and abroad. In recent years she has been working on a concept of performing light art called fire puppetry, inspired to adapt this ancient, yet ever so fascinating source of light - fire - to present time performing aesthetics and to bring it to new audiences and different venues around the world. She is particularly interested in the imaginative use of light and shadows created by fire. These performances are a vivid combination of light art and performing art including fire puppetry, fire circus and music, dance, mask and shadow theater. She continuously explores new ways of combining various art forms in order to create inspiring experiences for both children and adult audiences.

With her art Maria Barić aims to lead the audience into the realms of dreams and fantasy. The mixture of the different techniques used in the works lights up magical ambiances both indoors and outdoors.
